    Washington D. C.

Adam got this for me while he was on tour.
The White House is the oldest public structure, started in 1792 and home of the Presidents of the United States. Is is a perfect example of late 18th century Renaissance and yet has the simple dignity of a gracious American home.

Every year on the Fourth of July at nightfall, a spectacular fireworks show takes place over the nation's capital. The Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and the United States Capitol (l. -r.) provides an inspiring setting for the Independence Day celebration.

With its huge dome, the Capitol is the most impressive building in Washington, housing the legislative branch of the U.S. Government. Begun in 1793, when George Washington, our first president, laid the cornerstone, the partially-built structure was burned by British troops during the War of 1812. Although considered to have been completed in 1850, later enlargements have been added.
