I got this beautiful postcard from my friend Alfredo L. Once again he has sent a landscape postcard. This is the Monumental Fountain and the Square of Liberty.
This was sent by my friend, Bettina. This is the Castel dell Ovo, also known as Egg Castle. It is located on a small island in the bay of Naples. The castle was built by the Normans in the 12th century. Legend says that the poet Virgil had a magical egg put in the foundations to support them. If the egg breaks, the castle will collapse and Naples will be struck with bad luck.
This was sent by my friend, Bettina. This shows the crater of Vesuvius, the New castle and the Bay. Vesuvius is still active, the last eruption being in 1944. It is best known for its eruption in 79 AD, which destroyed the cities Pompeii and Herculaneum. It is 4, 203 feet high.
This was sent by my friend, Bettina. This is the Neoclassic facade of the SanCarlo Theatre with the elegant loggia, by Antonio Nicolini, above the atrium. This is the oldest continuously active theatre in the world and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was inaugurated on November 4, 1737 and was named after the King Bourbon Charles III of Naples.
This is from my friend Bettina. This picture shows the Square of Trieste and the Carciofo (artichoke) Fountain. From here you can access the big square Plebiscito, where the ex-royal castle is.
This is BY FAR, my favorite postcard to date. I have never recieved one that was a landscape photograph. Plus...it's a beautiful picture. It was sent by my friend, Alfredo L. It shows the mail square in Fenza wih the Monumental Fountain. Faenza is a small town (about 55, 000 people) that was founded by the Ancient Romans in Northern Italy. It is located in the Emelia-Romagna Region and is known for its ceramics.
